Court approves paternity test for late singer Mohbad’s son, Liam
By Folashade Olorunfemi –
The Ikorodu High Court in Lagos State has approved that a DNA test be conducted on the son of late Afropop star, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, to determine his paternity amid an ongoing family dispute.
Following the ruling, the court directed that the paternity test be carried out in three laboratories — two in the United Kingdom and one in the United States — where the DNA analysis will be conducted.
Counsel to Mohbad’s father disclosed this while addressing journalists at the resumed hearing of the paternity suit between Mr Joseph Aloba and Wunmi Aloba.
Liam’s paternity has been a subject of public debate since the death of the singer. Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, has repeatedly questioned the child’s paternity, leading to a dispute between him and his daughter-in-law, Wunmi.
As a result of the disagreement, Mr Aloba had earlier vowed not to rebury his son’s remains, which were exhumed following what was described as a rushed burial, until the issue of paternity is resolved.
According to Mr Aloba’s counsel, the matter has been adjourned until 7th April for a report on the collection and submission of samples. He stated that arrangements would be made with welfare officers to supervise the collection of samples, which will take place in the presence of both parties.
He further noted that representatives of the Aloba family and the legal team would be present at each centre where the samples will be delivered and the tests conducted.
