Tinubu sanctions 306km of roadworks across Niger State, extends Bodo–Bonny Road

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate reconstruction of critical federal roads in Niger State, as well as the extension of Bodo-Bonny Road in Rivers State.

The sanctioned projects cover the Mokwa–Bida Road (120km), Mokwa–Makeri Road (63km), and Bida–Labata Road (123.5km), totalling 306.5 kilometres. All three routes will be upgraded with reinforced concrete pavement to ensure durability and long-term value.

In Rivers, the president approved the extension of the Bodo–Bonny Road to link with the East–West Road. The dual-carriageway project will feature concrete pavement and solar-powered street lighting, and will be executed through a competitive bidding process.

In a recent statement, Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, described the roads as “strategically significant national economic corridors” that will enhance trade, improve mobility, and accelerate regional development.

He commended President Tinubu for the approvals and congratulated the governors and people of Niger and Rivers States, noting that the projects will deliver wide-reaching benefits to millions of Nigerians.

The minister further urged citizens to recognise the administration’s commitment to high-quality infrastructure across all six geopolitical zones, stressing that the projects reflect the government’s dedication to delivering the dividends of democracy.

“These approvals demonstrate the government’s focus on providing durable roads and bridges that will foster economic growth and regional integration,” Umahi said.

Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Works (Media), confirmed that construction will commence immediately, signalling the administration’s ongoing drive for nationwide infrastructure development.
