Ekiti 2026: APC to elect gubernatorial candidate through consensus
The All Progressives Congress (APC) declared on Tuesday that it will conduct the governorship primary election in Ekiti State through consensus.
In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party said that the transition from the previously indicated direct primary to a consensus primary was prompted by the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two aspirants, Mrs Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo.
The statement noted that “Mrs Omolayo conveyed her decision to withdraw from the contest and endorse His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, as a consensus candidate, and expressed her support for any arrangement adopted by the Party in nominating its flag bearer in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022, and the Party’s Constitution.”
Following the development, the party said it has now scheduled its delegate congress for Saturday, 25th October. This will be followed by the delegate congress appeal on Sunday, 26th, and the special nomination congress to ratify the consensus candidate on Monday, 27th October, 2025.
The APC implored its members and stakeholders in Ekiti State to unite and work for the party’s success in the June 2026 Governorship Election.
The National Working Committee of the party at its 179th Meeting recently, disqualified two governorship aspirants, Kayode Ojo and Olajumoke Abimbola
