Ekiti ADC crisis deepens as ex-chairman reportedly takes over secretariat

By Boye Oyeyemi
The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State has deepened, with the state chapter accusing its former chairman, Ilesanmi Omolayo, of allegedly forcing his way into the party secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Gboyega Aribisogan, the party described the alleged occupation of the secretariat as unlawful and an attempt to undermine its constitution and internal democratic processes.
The ADC said Omolayo was among former state chairmen whose tenure ended on May 13, 2026, adding that he was also involved in a legal dispute with the party that is currently before the Supreme Court.
According to the party, the secretariat remains its property and is under the control of the current State Executive Committee. It maintained that no former official has the authority to take possession of the premises without following due process.
The party alleged that the development was aimed at creating confusion within its ranks and frustrating its ongoing reorganisation and mobilisation ahead of future elections.
The ADC said it had alerted security agencies, including the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services, and urged them to restore order and investigate the alleged incident.
The party also called on Omolayo and those it described as his accomplices to vacate the premises, warning that it would take lawful steps to protect its property and institutional integrity.
The ADC appealed to its members and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing that it remained committed to peace, internal democracy and its ambition to provide an alternative political platform for the people of Ekiti State.
