Ekiti approves N3bn High Court complex, employs 30 PWDs

The Ekiti State Government has approved N3.005 billion for the construction of a new office complex for the State High Court of Justice in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
The approval was given at Tuesday’s State Executive Council meeting and announced by the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
Olatunbosun said the project became necessary because the existing facilities could no longer meet the judiciary’s growing needs, particularly following the recent appointment of five additional High Court judges.
He said the new complex would provide more courtrooms, judges’ chambers and offices while creating a better working environment for judicial officers, court staff and legal practitioners.
The commissioner disclosed that Axial Nigeria Ltd., which is currently executing a project at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, would undertake the construction through direct procurement, with an 18-month completion period.
The council also approved the employment of 30 persons with disabilities into the state public service, while Olatunbosun said the government had directed that the provision of the Ekiti State Disability Law reserving 5% of employment opportunities for PWDs be strictly implemented in future recruitment exercises.
Meanwhile, N142.69 million was approved for the construction of a water pump for the newly completed 80-bed hospital complex at EKSUTH, while another N194.66 million was approved for the supply and installation of transformers and electrical accessories at the facility, with the electrical project expected to be completed within one month.
Additionally, the council approved N145 million for the overhaul and expansion of the State Enterprise Broadband Network Infrastructure across ministries, departments and agencies, which the government said would strengthen digital connectivity, improve inter-agency communication and accelerate e-governance and public service delivery.
