Ekiti central leaders endorse Governor Oyebanji for second term

Leaders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti Central Senatorial District have officially endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the party’s sole candidate for the 2026 governorship election.
This endorsement came during a special senatorial meeting held at the Fajuyi Pavilion in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Monday.
The meeting saw prominent APC figures in Ekiti Central, including Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, former Deputy Governor Professor Modupe Adelabu, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, and several current and former legislators, lend their support to Oyebanji’s re-election bid.
The endorsement was passed with a unanimous voice vote by the leaders from the district’s five local government areas.
In a resolution presented to the APC Acting State Chairman, Sola Elesin, and a formal letter sent to the governor, Prof. Adelabu clarified that the endorsement did not prevent other APC members from contesting for the governorship seat. However, it emphasized that Oyebanji would receive full backing from APC members in the district for the 2026 election.
Senator Bamidele, addressing a large crowd of party supporters at the gathering, stressed that the endorsement was a demonstration of the party’s commitment to continuing good governance in Ekiti State.
He praised past governors of the state—Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Engr. Segun Oni, Chief Ayodele Fayose, and Dr. Kayode Fayemi—for laying the groundwork that has allowed Governor Oyebanji to accelerate the state’s development.
“Ekiti has never had it so good,” Bamidele remarked, underscoring Oyebanji’s success in uniting the state’s political leadership.
He referred to the governor’s ability to bring together past political rivals and consolidate the achievements of previous administrations.
Bamidele further noted that beyond his unification efforts, Oyebanji has brought governance to the grassroots, ensuring that the state’s people are directly engaged in the political process.
“Governor Oyebanji is working, and Ekiti is progressing. We have never had it so good,” he concluded.
