Ekiti monarch calls for upgrade of healthcare services at hospital annex
The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, has urged the management of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, to upgrade its annex in Ilawe-Ekiti to enable the facility to provide round-the-clock healthcare services.
The monarch made the appeal while receiving the hospital’s management team led by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Kolawole Ogundipe, at his palace in Ilawe-Ekiti, according to a statement issued on Thursday by his media adviser, Chief Olubunmi Ajibade.
Oba Alabi commended the management of the teaching hospital for sustaining operations at the annex despite the prevailing economic challenges in the country.
He said some modern medical equipment at the facility was underutilised and should be deployed to improve healthcare delivery for residents of Ilawe-Ekiti and neighbouring communities.
“The hospital annex should make use of the available modern equipment, including laboratory facilities, to meet the medical needs of the people,” the monarch said.
The traditional ruler also praised prominent indigenes of the town, including human rights lawyer Femi Falana and Senator Yemi Adaramodu, for supporting the growth of the hospital annex.
In his remarks, Ogundipe appreciated the monarch and members of the Ilawe-Ekiti community for their financial and material contributions towards the development of the health facility. “We will continue to update the community on the progress of the annex and ensure the hospital meets the expectations of the people,” he stated.
Ogundipe, who recently assumed office following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, had pledged to reposition the hospital as a centre for quality healthcare delivery, training and medical research.
