Ekiti workers pledge 500,000 votes for Oyebanji’s re-election

Workers in Ekiti State have pledged to deliver over 500,000 votes for Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the June 20 governorship election, citing his administration’s pro-labour policies and welfare interventions as their motivation.

The workers, drawn from ministries, departments and agencies as well as affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, made the declaration during a “thank you walk” to the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti as part of activities marking Workers’ Day.

The state NLC Chairman, Kolapo Olatunde, said the governor had earned the confidence of workers through prompt salary payments and sustained attention to their welfare.

“Workers now feel directly involved in governance because of this administration’s responsiveness and transparency. We have resolved to repay the governor with our votes,” he said.

Olatunde further described Oyebanji as a labour-friendly leader, noting that regular payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities and successful minimum wage negotiations had restored confidence in the public service.

“For these reasons, workers and their family members are ready to mobilise massively to ensure the governor secures over 500,000 votes in the election,” he added.

Responding, Oyebanji thanked the workers for the show of support, saying the gesture would spur his administration to do more in delivering good governance to the people of the state.

“Whatever we have done for workers is a duty of government. Elections are won through visible achievements, and we will remain committed to policies that improve the lives of our people,” the governor said.
