Enugu security agencies pledge support to EFCC in fight against corruption

Law enforcement agencies across Enugu State have pledged their full support to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its ongoing efforts to combat economic and financial crimes in the South-East region. This united front was demonstrated during a series of courtesy visits by the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Enugu Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Aisha Abubakar, to key security stakeholders in the state.

During her visit to the Enugu Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on April 10, 2025, Abubakar emphasized the growing threat of money laundering in the region. She advocated for stronger collaboration between agencies, stressing that joint efforts and intelligence sharing are critical to curbing illicit financial activities and narcotics-related crimes.

Abubakar highlighted the connection between drug use and other crimes such as kidnapping and murder, noting that many individuals arrested during EFCC operations were found in possession of drugs. She called for joint operations with the NDLEA, insisting that a united approach is the only way to effectively disrupt the cycle of criminality fueled by drugs and financial crimes.

In response, Commander of Narcotics, Sunu Wadahi Abel, expressed appreciation for the visit and affirmed the NDLEA’s readiness to collaborate with the EFCC. He commended the Commission’s efforts and assured Abubakar of continued support in intelligence sharing and operations.

At the Nigeria Customs Service, Enugu Command, Abubakar described the agency as a vital partner in the EFCC’s mandate. She noted the longstanding relationship between both bodies and called for deeper cooperation, particularly in intelligence gathering and combating illicit financial flows. Customs Comptroller Comfort Ukpanah echoed this sentiment, praising the EFCC’s strides and reaffirming her agency’s commitment to joint efforts.

A similar message was delivered at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) where Abubakar met with Sector Commander Franklin Agbakoba on April 16. She described the visit as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration, stating that effective law enforcement depends on unity among security agencies. Agbakoba assured her of the FRSC’s continued cooperation, noting past successful engagements between both bodies.

The tour continued with visits to the Nigeria Correctional Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on April 17. Comptroller Prisca Chioma Oku and Commandant Dr. Willie Elijah Etim both pledged their support to the EFCC, emphasizing the need for consistent cooperation to achieve national security goals.

Abubakar thanked the agencies for their commitment and reiterated the EFCC’s dedication to working hand in hand with all relevant stakeholders. She maintained that the war against corruption, money laundering, and drug-related crimes can only be won through unity and proactive collaboration across the board.
