Enugu women rally behind Mbah, APC ahead of 2027 polls

Women in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State have rallied behind Governor Peter Mbah and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The women declared their support on Sunday, August 16, at a gathering organised by the Enugu State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke, at her country home in Inyi, Oji River LGA.

Madueke said the event brought together women across the council area, regardless of their political, religious or community affiliations, to highlight the achievements of the Mbah administration in Oji River.

She said the administration had established 20 Smart Green Schools and 20 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres in the council, while work was ongoing on the Umabi-Ehuhe Achi and Enugu-Aku-Inyi roads.

The commissioner also commended Mbah for appointing Oji River indigenes to various positions in his administration and supporting women through empowerment initiatives, including monthly financial assistance facilitated by the governor’s wife, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah.

Madueke disclosed that more than 3,000 women attended the gathering, which also featured medical checks, distribution of food items and wrappers, and empowerment support. She added that participants were required to have Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

She said the women had resolved to support Mbah and APC candidates in the 2027 elections, declaring, “We promise him that come 2027, Oji River will deliver votes for APC from top to bottom”.

The council chairman, Greg Anyaegbudike, said the turnout reflected the women’s support for Mbah and the APC, adding that their decision was based on the administration’s projects, including Smart Green Schools, healthcare facilities, human capital development and scholarships. He disclosed that more than 123 Oji River indigenes were benefiting from the state government’s scholarship programme.
