Erelu tasks national assembly to pass legislation for gender equity, women empowerment

Wife of former Ekiti State Governor Erelu Bisi Fayemi has called on the national assembly to pass legislation on gender equity and women empowerment in the country.
Fayemi made the request while giving her Keynote address at the International Conference on Women in Governance.
The conference which was organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Abuja had in attendance women from across the country involved in governance.
In a post on her social media page Fayemi said, “Recently, I gave the Keynote Address at the International Conference on Women in Governance organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Abuja. In my address, I called on the 10th National Assembly to pass legislation for gender equity and women’s empowerment.
“The Senate President, HE Senator Godswill Akpabio, as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, RT Tajudeen Abbas, promised to ensure that the NASS assembly would do right by Nigerian women.
“It was great to see my sisters from the Ekiti State House of Assembly at the conference. Ekiti State currently has the highest number of female legislators in the country. No country can achieve its potential without the full and equal participation of women in governance.”
