Evil spirits not responsible for accidents – FRSC tells Nigerians

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has debunked claims that evil spirits and demons are responsible for road crashes in the country.

Oyo Sector Commander of the Corps, Mrs. Rosemary Alo, made this known in Ibadan on Wednesday while flagging off a two-day seminar focused on creating a safe motoring environment in Nigeria.

Alo explained that the seminar aimed to educate safety officers and key stakeholders—including transport unions, government agencies, and civil society organisations—on how to prevent road crashes.

The seminar was organised in collaboration with the Dr. Tunde Aladesanmi Road Safety Foundation.

“We must understand that crashes are caused by human actions—speeding, driving under the influence of drugs, and other reckless behaviours—not by any spirit,” she said.

“Driving requires 100 per cent concentration. Violating safe driving rules creates conditions that lead to crashes.”

Alo emphasized that most road accidents result from a poor and disrespectful attitude toward traffic laws and safety regulations.

She added that addressing road safety in Nigeria requires the collaborative efforts of all citizens.
