Ex-Nigerian Ambassador to Japan, Prof. Gana joins ADC

By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin –

The immediate past Nigerian Ambassador to Japan, Professor Mohammed Yisa Gana, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Gana’s resignation was contained in a letter dated July 16, 2025, and addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Kpada Ward II, Patigi Local Government Area. The letter was also copied to the PDP chairmen at the local and state levels, as well as the party leader and former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

The former envoy, a known political ally of Saraki, expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities given to him over the years to serve his local government, state, and Nigeria.

“The decision to resign my membership did not come easy for me, especially considering the opportunities the party had provided me… for which I am grateful,” he wrote.

He, however, stated that it had become necessary to chart a new course in the interest of progress for his constituency and the nation.

“As I leave the PDP, I am stepping into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as my new party,” the letter read.

Gana’s defection is seen as a major development in Patigi politics and could affect the dynamics of party alignments in the state.

He wished the PDP well in its future endeavours, while pledging commitment to his new political platform.
