A former President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Professor Dayo Faduyile, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress primary for the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election.
The primary election, which held on Monday, ended with Faduyile defeating other contenders with 16,312 votes.
Announcing the results at the party secretariat, the Chairman of the Southern Senatorial District By-election Committee, Aginde Terver, described the exercise as peaceful and urged party members to remain united despite the competition among aspirants.
Terver said the party’s focus should now shift towards ensuring victory in the forthcoming senatorial poll and the 2027 general elections, stressing that members must work together irrespective of the outcome of the primary.
According to the results announced by the committee, the former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, secured 2,686 votes, while Oluwafemi Agagu polled 2,200 votes.
Similarly, the former Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, was said to have garnered 1,620 votes in the exercise.
The committee chairman, however, clarified that the formal declaration of the winner would be made in Abuja in line with the party’s guidelines and directives.
Reacting to the outcome, Faduyile commended party members for conducting themselves peacefully during the primary, describing the process as transparent and participatory. In the same vein, the former aide to the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu expressed confidence that the APC would win the Ondo South senatorial bye-election.
