Ex-OnlyFans model sentenced to six years over death of Nigerian-American
A former OnlyFans model, Courtney Clenney, has been sentenced to six years in prison over the 2022 death of her Nigerian-American boyfriend, Christian Tobechukwu “Toby” Obumseli, in Miami, United States.
Clenney, 30, pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a deadly weapon on Monday, bringing an end to a case that has attracted significant public attention since Obumseli was fatally stabbed at their apartment in Miami’s Edgewater neighbourhood in April 2022.
Under a plea agreement, Clenney will receive credit for the nearly four years she has already spent in custody since her arrest in August 2022. She is therefore expected to spend about two more years in prison before beginning a five-year probation period.
The former model had initially been charged with second-degree murder but maintained that she acted in self-defence during a confrontation with Obumseli. Prosecutors, however, presented evidence pointing to a history of violence in the relationship.
Following her release, Clenney will be required to undergo mental health and substance abuse assessments and comply with any recommended treatment. Prosecutors have also indicated that they will oppose any attempt by her to profit financially from Obumseli’s death.
Obumseli’s family told the court that his death had left an enduring void and that no punishment could restore the life he lost. “No sentence, no plea can bring back my son to me,” his mother said.
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said the plea agreement gave Obumseli’s family the opportunity to hear Clenney accept responsibility for his death. She said the agreement was reached in consultation with and with the approval of the family.
Obumseli, who was from the Dallas-Plano area of Texas, attended Plano East High School and Texas Tech University before relocating to Miami. His family had also pursued a civil lawsuit against Clenney and companies associated with the apartment complex, alleging battery and inadequate security.
