Fadahunsi grilled by police over alleged call to ‘kill’ Accord members

Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, on Wednesday said he honoured the invitation of the Osun State Police Command to clarify what he described as a misinterpreted viral video.

Fadahunsi spoke after spending nearly two hours at the police command in Osogbo, where he was questioned over the video that had generated controversy ahead of the election.

“I came here to honour the police invitation. We have met and I told them what I said, not the one manipulated by the mischievous interpreters of the Yoruba language,” Fadahunsi told journalists after his release.

The senator said the statement attributed to him as calling for the killing of Accord Party members was not what he meant, explaining that he was referring to defeating the party with votes.

“I am a Yoruba man. If a Hausa or Igbo person is interpreting, it may not be correct. Yoruba means a lot of things. What I said was that between now and Saturday, we will kill them with our votes,” he said.

Fadahunsi arrived at the police command at about 2:25 p.m., accompanied by one of his aides, and was directed to the Department of Criminal Investigation (CID), where he was led into an investigation room by the commissioner of police in charge of election duty, Samuel Erale Etaifo, alongside other senior police officers.

He spent about one hour and 57 minutes in the investigation room before being taken to the commissioner of police’s office, where he spent another 20 minutes before being returned to the CID.

The two-term senator also expressed concern over the security situation in Osun East, alleging that Governor Ademola Adeleke was turning the senatorial district into a battleground while his hometown remained peaceful.
