TICC asks police to update public on Fadahunsi’s investigation

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has urged the Nigeria Police Force to provide the public with an update on its investigation into alleged threats by Senator Francis Fadahunsi against members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.

The council made the demand in a statement on Wednesday, following the reported invitation of Fadahunsi by the police over a viral video in which he was allegedly heard calling for the killing of Accord Party members.

TICC spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the alleged threat had created fear among the council’s members in Ijesaland and other parts of Osun State, stressing that the matter had become a serious public concern with the election only days away.

The council said the police should demonstrate that the investigation was being handled with the seriousness it deserved and ensure that the invitation did not merely serve to calm public outrage.

“Upon reviewing the threat video and establishing the intention to harm Accord leaders and members as threatened, we ask the police not to waste time in charging Senator Fadahunsi to court,” the statement read.

TICC stressed that it was not asking the police to presume Fadahunsi’s guilt but wanted the authorities to thoroughly examine the video and take appropriate action if the allegations were established.

The council also urged Accord Party leaders and supporters in Ijesaland not to respond to the alleged threat with violence but to continue their mobilisation for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election peacefully.

“Political disagreement must never become a justification to threaten the life of fellow citizens or opposing political parties,” the council stated.
