The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has said the Federal Government’s intervention in senior secondary education aims to promote quality and globally competitive learning across the country.

Executive Secretary of the commission, Dr Iyela Ajayi, stated this on Tuesday during an inspection of NSSEC projects at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure.

The projects include a 500-seater multipurpose hall, 12 classrooms with offices, and a renovated e-library complex.

Ajayi said the commission, established by the 2023 Act, is mandated to regulate, coordinate and provide support for senior secondary education nationwide.

According to him, “no fewer than 1,500 teachers in senior secondary schools across the country will be trained on digital literacy.”

He explained that 50 schools across the 36 states and the FCT had been selected for upgrade, with Oyemekun Grammar School among the beneficiaries.

He later met with the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, who commended the commission for its interventions and pledged the state’s continued support.

The school’s principal, Mr Adeniyi Oluyide, also thanked NSSEC for addressing key needs in senior secondary education.
