Fire engulfs residential building in Oyo

A fire broke out on Thursday at a residential building in the Ile-Labe Abepe area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
WESTERN POST learnt that eight rooms were affected in the incident.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maruf Akinwande, confirmed the outbreak in a statement on Friday. He explained that the fire was caused by an unattended cooking gas that ignited nearby combustible materials.
Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.
“On Thursday, 15th May 2025, at exactly 14:10 hrs, we received a distress call from Alhaja Sabiatu reporting a fire at the above address. By 14:11 hrs, a fire tanker with five personnel led by ACFS Odewabi was dispatched to the scene,” the statement read.
“Upon arrival, we met an eight-room private residential building already engulfed by fire. We promptly swung into action and were able to contain the fire within minutes. No lives were lost, and properties worth millions of naira were saved by the Fire Service.”
Akinwande reiterated that the fire resulted from a cooking gas left unattended, which ignited nearby materials.
The Zonal Commander of the Ogbomoso Fire Station, CFS Seyi Awoyemi, urged members of the public to always exercise caution with domestic gas and other cooking appliances in their homes.
