Flying Eagles arrive in Cairo for U-20 AFCON

Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, as the seven-time African champions prepare for the 17th Africa U-20 Cup of Nations finals, set to kick off in the North African country on Sunday.

The contingent, comprising 24 players and nine officials, is led by Head Coach Aliyu Zubairu. They touched down at Cairo International Airport aboard an EgyptAir flight on Sunday evening.

The team is currently lodged at Jewel Sports City and Aqua Resort and is expected to hold its first training session on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles will face host nation, the Young Pharaohs of Egypt, on Tuesday evening as part of their build-up to the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place from April 27 to May 18.

The friendly match is slated for 5 p.m. local time (4 p.m. Nigeria time) at the Cairo International Stadium.

Nigeria will begin their campaign against Tunisia at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Thursday, May 1.

The Africa U-20 Cup of Nations also serves as a qualifying tournament for the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals, scheduled for September 27 to October 19 in Chile.

All four semi-finalists from the tournament in Egypt will represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
