G7 ministers to discuss suspected pro-Russian cyber attacks

Foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries will discuss recent cyber attacks suspected to have been carried out by pro-Russian groups at a meeting in Paris on Monday and Tuesday.

Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, disclosed this on Sunday, saying his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Barrot, had accepted his proposal to include the issue on the meeting’s agenda.

Tajani said his personal data was published on the dark web on Saturday by hackers he described as pro-Russian, linking the incident to the Italian government’s support for Ukraine.

He noted that several incidents of what he described as hybrid warfare had been reported across Europe and South America in recent days, adding that G7 members would consider possible joint measures to counter the threats.

However, the Italian minister stopped short of accusing the Russian government of involvement in the attacks, saying there was no evidence to support such a claim.

“I said the hackers are pro-Russian. I did not say that the Russian government is responsible. If I had proof of Russian government involvement, I would say so,” he said.
