Former Deputy Chief of Staff to the late Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, Alhaji Rasak Gbadegesin Kareem, has resigned his appointment as a member of the Oyo State Advisory Council under Governor Seyi Makinde.
Kareem announced his resignation in a letter dated July 6, 2026, addressed to Governor Makinde through the Chairman of the Oyo State Advisory Council, Bolaji Ayorinde. He said his resignation takes immediate effect.
In the letter, the Ogbomoso-born politician thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to serve the state. He described his membership of the advisory council as a privilege and expressed gratitude for the chance to contribute, in his “modest capacity,” to the development and progress of Oyo State.
“I, Alhaji Rasak Gbadegesin Kareem, hereby respectfully tender my resignation as a member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, with immediate effect,” the letter stated.
Although Kareem did not disclose the reason for his resignation, he remarked that he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “for now,” a statement that has fueled speculation about his next political move.
His resignation comes amid heightened political activities in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with consultations and realignments continuing across the state’s political landscape.
As of press time, the Oyo State Government had not issued an official response to Kareem’s resignation, and it remained unclear whether a replacement would be announced soon.
