Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Tuesday inspected several of his administration’s flagship projects, including the soon-to-be-unveiled Innovation Hub, the reconstructed Civil Service Clinic, Kwara Hotel, Ilorin International Conference Centre, and other initiatives aimed at transforming the state’s economy and infrastructure.

During the inspection, the Governor emphasized that these projects are part of a broader vision to build a sustainable ecosystem that positions Kwara as a hub for innovation, healthcare, tourism, and commerce.

“Our focus is to create an ecosystem that projects Kwara to the world and makes it a go-to destination for healthcare, tourism, entertainment, and business,” AbdulRazaq said.

The Governor addressed questions about the state’s significant investments in projects such as the garment factory, international conference centre, visual arts centre, film factory, shea butter factory, Patigi Motel, a multi-storey courthouse, and other ongoing developments.

Speaking during his visit to the reconstructed Civil Service Clinic, AbdulRazaq emphasized the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery.

“We are rebuilding and expanding the Civil Service Clinic to serve as a major referral centre at the secondary level. Similarly, we have upgraded the Ilorin General Hospital to a University Teaching Hospital, while Sobi Specialist Hospital is set to become Al-Hikmah University Teaching Hospital, and Omu-Aran Hospital will serve as Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital,” he explained.

“These investments are part of our broader strategy to deepen healthcare services at both the primary and secondary levels, ensuring accessible and quality care for our people.”

Highlighting the near-completion of the Innovation Hub, the Governor revealed plans to collaborate with key partners like IHS, which has committed over ₦10 billion to the project.

“Our target is to have five unicorns emerge from Kwara in the next ten years. This Innovation Hub will set a benchmark for Africa. It’s not just about building a structure but ensuring functionality and partnerships that drive growth,” AbdulRazaq stated.

The Governor also expressed confidence that the state’s investments in infrastructure would attract a surge in visitors by December 2025, with Kwara positioned as a preferred destination for conferences, tourism, and business.

“We aim to see multiple flights coming in and out of Kwara daily, restoring the state to its prime position from the First Republic. It’s a long journey, but we are committed to steady progress,” he added.

AbdulRazaq reiterated his administration’s determination to maintain its development strides and ensure that Kwara becomes a shining example of sustainable growth in Nigeria.
