Governor Fubara seeks to present 2025 budget amid political tensions

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially notified the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, of his intention to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill on Wednesday, March 12, at 10:00 a.m.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker, Governor Fubara referenced his March 2 statewide broadcast, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing the recent Supreme Court judgment on the state’s political disputes.

The governor noted that efforts were made to hold a consultative meeting with the Assembly on March 10 to deliberate on the judgment’s implications and agree on a way forward. However, the meeting did not take place.

Despite this setback, the governor emphasized his decision to proceed with the implementation of the court’s ruling, having now received a certified true copy of the judgment.

As part of this, he formally requested the Assembly’s consideration of the 2025 budget presentation.

Governor Fubara expressed hope that the House would grant his request and reiterated his commitment to the state’s progress.

The scheduled presentation comes amid ongoing tensions between factions in the Assembly, which could impact the budget’s deliberation process.

Further developments are expected as the situation unfolds.
