Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved an increase in gratuity payments for retirees from ₦1.5 billion to ₦3 billion, representing a 100 per cent rise.
The development was confirmed on Friday by the Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Oyo State, Aribatise Adebayo.
Adebayo described the approval as a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of workers and retirees in the state.
He also commended the state government for the consistent payment of the 13th-month salary to workers.
According to him, the prompt release of subventions has further strengthened confidence among workers and organised labour.
In a joint statement, the leadership of the NLC, Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde for what they termed worker-friendly gestures.
They noted that the increase in gratuity payments and regular staff welfare measures reaffirm the governor’s dedication to industrial harmony and the well-being of workers and retirees in Oyo State.
