Gusau promises to make meaningful contributions in FIFA committee

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and President of WAFU-B, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), has pledged to make meaningful and impactful contributions to the FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Committee, to which he was appointed this week by world football-governing body, FIFA.

Gusau described his appointment as a recognition and honour he does not take for granted, noting that it presents an opportunity to justify the confidence reposed in him by the FIFA Council and to promote the interests of Nigeria, West Africa, and African football.

He said he is committed to using his experience to foster diverse and constructive discussions that will help the committee make informed decisions, while bringing valuable insights from the African game.

According to him, his roles within the NFF, WAFU-B, and the CAF Executive Committee will give weight to his contributions and enable him to effectively advocate for the development of African football.

Gusau’s appointment, alongside other Nigerians, underscores the growing respect that the country continues to earn in global football and offers an opportunity to further enhance that recognition.

“I look forward to collaborating with my committee chairman and members and making inputs into decisions that will shape the future of men’s club football globally,” he said. “Our contributions can accelerate the growth of football economies in developing nations, as club football remains the key pathway to achieving this.”

The FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Committee is chaired by Jassim Rashid Al Buenain from Qatar, with Mikel Arriola from Mexico serving as deputy chairman.

Other Nigerians appointed to FIFA committees include former NFF President Amaju Melvin Pinnick (OFR, ROI), who was named Deputy Chair of the FIFA Men’s National Team Competitions Committee; NFF Executive Committee Member Aisha Falode, appointed to the FIFA Media & Communications Committee; A. U. Mustapha (SAN), appointed to the FIFA Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination Committee; and former Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Ayotunde Phillips, retained as a member of the FIFA Ethics Committee (Adjudicatory Council).
