Ibadan Circular Road: 193 property owners receive fourth batch compensation

By Adejayan Gbenga –
The Oyo State Government has disbursed the fourth batch of compensation to property owners affected by the ongoing Circular Road project in Ibadan.
The latest payment, totaling ₦780 million, was released on Thursday at the office of the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Williams Funmilayo.
Speaking with journalists, Funmilayo described the exercise as a significant step in the state government’s commitment to ensuring fairness to those whose properties fall within the construction corridor.
According to him, out of 298 properties affected in the first segment of the project, 193 owners have already been compensated, while 105 are yet to present themselves for screening. He stressed that the screening process was necessary to prevent fraudulent claims and ensure that only genuine beneficiaries received payments.
“We are still expecting the remaining owners to come forward with their documents for verification. Once they comply, their compensation will be processed immediately,” the commissioner assured.
Funmilayo revealed that while ₦780 million has so far been paid, the total compensation liability stands at about ₦980 million. He added that the ministry had documented the names of the outstanding beneficiaries and would embark on further public sensitisation to encourage them to claim their entitlements.
The Circular Road project is one of the flagship infrastructural initiatives of the Oyo State Government, designed to ease traffic congestion in Ibadan and boost economic development.
