Igando-Ikotun LCDA Chairman boosts livelihoods with empowerment scheme, honours outstanding staff

The Chairman of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (IILCDA) in Lagos State, Com. Lasisi Akinsanya, has empowered residents with deep freezers, grinding machines, sewing machines, motorcycles and other equipment to boost their economic well-being.

The empowerment programme, held on Thursday to mark Akinsanya’s first 365 days in office in his second term, also featured an awards ceremony and mega fiesta to recognise outstanding staff for their contributions to the administration.

The beneficiaries were nominated by various groups and stakeholders, including youth groups, the League of Imams, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Community Development Associations (CDAs), traditional worshippers, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), market men and women, the Igbo-speaking community and the Arewa community.

Speaking at the event, Akinsanya said the initiative was designed to improve residents’ economic fortunes, strengthen their financial independence and create sustainable sources of livelihood.

He urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the equipment and resist the temptation to sell them for immediate financial gains. The council chairman said his administration was committed not only to infrastructural development but also to initiatives that would improve residents’ economic well-being.

He added that the funds used to procure the empowerment items were derived from the benefits of President Bola Tinubu’s removal of the fuel subsidy. Akinsanya urged residents not to be swayed by opposition parties promising to restore the fuel subsidy, arguing that such promises were not in the best interest of Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

He also canvassed support for Tinubu, the Lagos State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Idiat Adebule and other candidates of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Pastor Kolawole Obolo received the Distinguished Christian Leader Award, while the Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Com. Arowosafe Adeshina, received the Workers Welfare Services Award.
