Irate mob beats suspected thief to coma in Ondo

A suspected burglar was reportedly beaten into a state of unconsciousness by an irate mob early Wednesday morning in the Oke Aro area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Oruntan Street, located behind the Mother and Child Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect allegedly attempted to snatch a bag from a resident, prompting the victim to raise an alarm.

In response, residents quickly mobilized and attacked the suspect, subjecting him to a brutal beating until he lost consciousness.

When reporters arrived at the scene, the suspect was found lying on the ground, unconscious but still breathing.

Locals confirmed that security operatives had been contacted, though there was no indication yet that the suspect had been taken into custody.

The identity of the suspect remains unknown as of the time of filing this report.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Ondo State Police Command were unsuccessful.
