Jimoh Ibrahim says UN must respond to rising geopolitical tensions

Ambassador-designate of Nigeria to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim says the United Nations must take stronger steps to address rising geopolitical tensions, rapid advances in military technology, and the growing threat of illicit arms transfers across the world.

Speaking on Monday during a welcome address to participants of the United States Army War College at Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations on Monday, Ibrahim said global security challenges now require deeper international cooperation and innovative military responses.

He said President Bola Tinubu remains committed to strengthening Nigeria’s military and expanding strategic partnerships with international allies.

“President Bola Tinubu remains deeply committed to engaging the Nigerian military as a top priority,” Ibrahim said.

“His administration is dedicated to providing substantial funding for military operations, exploring innovative approaches, and ensuring excellent welfare for service members.”

He added that the Nigerian leader was pleased with the visit of the US Army War College delegation and was interested in expanding cooperation between both countries.

“He is genuinely pleased about your visit and is eager to explore more opportunities for partnership,” Ibrahim stated.

The Nigerian envoy warned that the international community must pay closer attention to emerging global threats confronting armed forces worldwide.

“President Bola Tinubu is aware that further global challenges facing the Army include global arms control and disarmament, heightened geopolitical tensions and major power competition, the rapid development of new weapon technologies, and the rise of illicit weapon transfers,” he said.
