JUST IN: President Tinubu swears in Nnanna Kalu as NASS Commissioner

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday swore in Nnanna Uzor Kalu as Commissioner representing the Southeast in the National Assembly Service Commission (NASSC).
Kalu took the oath of office and allegiance at approximately 2:00 p.m. during a brief ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, ahead of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
His confirmation by the Senate on May 20 followed the adoption of the report of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service. The Senate had affirmed that a prior petition against his nomination was reviewed and dismissed by the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions.
Kalu joins other members of the commission who were inaugurated on May 5, 2025, for a renewable five-year term.
A former two-term member of the House of Representatives, he represented Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency during the 5th and 6th National Assemblies. He is also the younger brother of former Abia State Governor and Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu.
During the FEC meeting, members observed a minute’s silence in honour of former Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd), who passed away on May 11, 2025, at the age of 70.
President Tinubu subsequently presided over a closed-door session of the Federal Executive Council.
