JUST IN: Tinubu nominates Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as minister of power

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, which has been formally transmitted to lawmakers, follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings more than three decades of experience in fiscal policy, governance, and economic reform across both public and private sectors. He previously served as a senior partner at KPMG Africa, where he led advisory work on institutional reforms and investment strategies.
He currently holds the position of Director General and Global Liaison at the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, overseeing efforts to strengthen development cooperation between Nigeria and China.
Tegbe is also reported to have played key roles in power sector reforms, working with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
If confirmed, his appointment is expected to support ongoing reforms aimed at improving electricity supply, stabilising the national grid, and attracting investment into the sector under the administration’s policy agenda.
