‘Keep food prices low during Ramadan, Lent’ – Omoloja

By Boye Oyeyemi

The Chairman of Ikole Local Government Area, Mr. Bayo Omojola, has appealed to traders to avoid hiking food prices during Ramadan and Lent.

He made the call during an unscheduled visit to the King’s Market in Ikole-Ekiti, stating that food vendors should make conscious efforts to keep food stuffs affordable.

Omojola further added that the sales of food at reasonable rates would ease the burden on Muslims and Christians observing fasts.

“Deliberate inflation of foodstuff during this period of fasting is wickedness and selfishness. I urge market women to stop this practice. Selling at inflated prices shows a lack of compassion,” he said.

Acknowledging the current economic challenges, the council boss stressed that fasting periods should be marked by consideration for others, while advising residents to be their brother’s keeper.

He concluded by urging all food vendors in Ikole local government to maintain affordable prices and warned that any deliberate attempt to overprice food items would not be tolerated.
