Kenya dominates as Koros wins inaugural Enugu Marathon

Kenyan runner Koros Ken has emerged the winner of the maiden edition of the Enugu City International Marathon, claiming the $15,000 top prize in a dominant performance by Kenyan athletes across both the male and female categories.
Steve Rasway, also from Kenya, finished second and received $10,000, while compatriot Bernard Sang came third, taking home $5,000. The Kenyan dominance continued in the women’s category, with Shauline Chepkiru Koech clinching the top prize.
Nigerian runner Davou Ezekiel from Jos emerged as the best indigenous athlete, winning the N3 million prize set aside for local competitors.
The marathon, which met expectations in turnout, excitement, and organization, was widely praised as a world-class event. Governor Peter Mbah, who added color to the occasion by participating in the 10km race, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s success.
“This race has shown us the power of sports and what it can do in galvanizing our youth. I’m really impressed with what I’ve seen, and it has only motivated us as a state to work harder to make the race even better next year,” Mbah said.
Over 100 international elite athletes participated in the event, alongside thousands of Nigerian runners, marking a memorable debut for the Enugu City International Marathon.
