Kogi police rescue 11 victims, including NYSC members kidnapped along Aloma–Egane Road

The Kogi State Police Command has rescued 11 persons abducted along the Aloma–Egane Road in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were kidnapped on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, when armed assailants reportedly emerged from the bush around Ogene Zaria, near the Ogene Zaria/Onicha-Igo Junction, and blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions.
According to a recent statement by the command’s public relations officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the attackers abducted some of the passengers, while others escaped into the surrounding bush.
The statement said the Divisional Police Officer, Ofu, led a joint security team to the scene after receiving a distress call, resulting in the recovery of the two abandoned vehicles. It added that a coordinated bush-combing and rescue operation was subsequently launched, leading to the successful rescue of 11 abducted victims, including the drivers of the two buses.
Preliminary debriefing indicated that most of the victims were members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja. The command added that the rescued victims were subsequently allowed to continue their journey.
Meanwhile, the command said it had received a report of another armed attack along the Itobe–Ochadamu Expressway, particularly around Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area, on Thursday, August 27.
Oyiza said the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. when armed assailants emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on motorists. A blue Toyota Corolla, with registration number GWA 636 CH, was later found abandoned along the highway, with its driver dead inside the vehicle, while another occupant was abducted.
The command said security personnel were combing the surrounding forest in an effort to rescue the abducted victim and apprehend the perpetrators.
