KWAM 1 risks two-year jail term for obstructing Valujet flight
Fuji music icon, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, may face up to two years in prison if found guilty of allegedly obstructing a ValuJet aircraft’s movement at an aerodrome.
The allegation falls under Section 459A of Nigeria’s Criminal Code Act, CAP C38, which stipulates that any person who, by any unlawful act, obstructs, alters the course of, hinders, or impedes the movement of any aircraft—whether on the ground or in flight over an aerodrome—is guilty of a misdemeanour and liable to a maximum of two years’ imprisonment.
The law also provides under Section 459B that any person who commits nuisance or trespass in or upon an aerodrome, or in any building or premises situated within an aerodrome, is guilty of a simple offence and is liable to imprisonment for three months or a fine of forty naira.
While details of the alleged incident remain under investigation, reports suggest that the obstruction complaint arose from a recent incident involving a ValuJet flight in which KWAM 1 was present.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether formal charges will be filed, but legal experts note that the offence, if proven, carries a significant penalty under Nigerian aviation and criminal law.
