Kwara governor appoints Prof. Popoola as CMD of newly designated teaching hospital

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved the appointment of Professor Ademola Alabi Popoola as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the newly designated Thomas Adewumi Teaching Hospital in Omu-Aran.

The appointment follows the recent signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kwara State Government and Thomas Adewumi University, Oko, which formally upgraded the General Hospital, Omu-Aran, into a full-fledged teaching hospital affiliated with the university.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Saad Hamdalat, Press Secretary to the Ministry of Health, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, described the appointment as a strategic move aimed at providing visionary leadership to the new teaching hospital.

“This appointment represents a bold step by the State Government to raise the bar in medical education, research, and healthcare service delivery in Kwara State,” Dr. El-Imam said.

She added that the initiative will not only strengthen Thomas Adewumi University’s medical training programmes but also improve access to quality healthcare services for residents of Kwara and neighboring states.

With Prof. Popoola at the helm, the hospital is expected to evolve into a center of excellence, aligning with the state government’s broader vision for a healthier and more prosperous society.
