Kwara Govt condemns rising attacks on teachers, vows action

The Kwara State Government has condemned the rising incidents of violence against teachers, describing the trend as disturbing and unacceptable in any society that values education.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the government expressed concern that many of the attacks stem from students reacting to disciplinary measures.
“These attacks are not just alarming but an assault on the very foundation of our educational system,” Olohungbebe said. “When we attack teachers, we attack the future.”
The statement cited a recent incident where a teacher was assaulted on school grounds by two siblings, both students of the institution. The Ministry has set up a disciplinary panel to investigate the case and recommend appropriate sanctions.
“We will not tolerate any form of violence or insubordination in our schools,” the Commissioner warned.
Olohungbebe also accused some parents of encouraging bad behaviour or shielding their children from discipline, warning that anyone—student or parent—found culpable will face the full force of the law.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration to ensuring the safety and welfare of teachers in the state. “Teachers must feel safe and supported in their noble work of moulding future generations. The government is taking this matter seriously and will deploy all necessary measures to protect them,” he stated.
