Kwara PDP faction names Fawenu as deputy governorship candidate

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State has unveiled Rev. Cornelius “Cos” Fawenu as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Engr. Suleiman Kale Kawu Agaka, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was made by the faction on Tuesday, describing the Agaka-Fawenu ticket as a combination of experience, integrity and capacity to provide people-centred leadership for the state.
According to the faction, the duo shares a vision of promoting unity, improving infrastructure, creating jobs, strengthening education and healthcare, empowering youths and women, and delivering transparent governance across Kwara State.
The group said it believes the ticket offers residents an alternative leadership capable of driving sustainable development and improving the welfare of the people.
Until his emergence as the deputy governorship candidate, Fawenu served as the faction’s placeholder candidate for the Kwara South Senatorial District.
The cleric and politician was appointed Special Assistant on Christian Affairs during the administration of former Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed in 2017 and has held several leadership positions within the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State.
His previous roles include PDP leader for Wards 3, 4 and 5 in the Share District of Ifelodun Local Government Area, former PDP chairman for Kwara South Senatorial District and, most recently, PDP state treasurer, a position he assumed in September last year.
The faction said the announcement of the Agaka-Fawenu ticket has been well received by its members and supporters, expressing confidence that the pair will strengthen its preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
