Lagos farmers receive N11.4m grant under Renewed Hope Agricultural Support Programme

By Adeola Ogunrinde –
Eighty-seven farmers in Lagos on Monday received a total of N11.4 million under the 2025 Renewed Hope Initiative Agricultural Support Programme (RHI-ASP), an initiative of the federal government. Twenty-seven beneficiaries in the youth and women category got N200,000 each along with farming inputs, while 60 others selected from the three senatorial districts received N100,000 each under the “Every Home A Garden 2.0” scheme.
The beneficiaries are involved in various agricultural ventures including fisheries, vegetable farming, garri processing, poultry, beekeeping, and zobo drink production. The grant aims to improve their productivity and boost food security across the state.
To further encourage youth participation, 120 students from 24 schools across the six education districts in Lagos were selected for the Young Farmers Club (YFC) 2.0 project, with five students each from junior and senior schools expected to take part.
Speaking during the official launch and cheque presentation at the Lagos House, Ikeja, First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, commended the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for supporting the programme with N60 million.
She highlighted that the initiative includes four major components: Women Agricultural Support Programme, Youth Agricultural Support Programme, Every Home A Garden, and the Young Farmers Club. She said the programme is awakening interest in agriculture, particularly among women and youth, offering a sustainable means of livelihood.
“For me, the Lagos story is changing for the better. We will build a Lagos where no one goes to bed hungry, and where our women and youth are financially independent. Agriculture is not just our heritage—it’s our future,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
Wife of the Deputy Governor, Oluremi Hamzat, described the initiative as a way to boost household food production. She said Lagos is witnessing new opportunities and encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the grants.
Guest speakers Femi Ojelade and Omolara Oguntuyi urged the youth to embrace agriculture, emphasizing its potential and the importance of organic farming. Students from the Young Farmers Club across different schools in the state were present at the event.
