Lagos issues traffic advisory as Kara Bridge repairs begin Tuesday

The Lagos State Government has advised motorists to expect traffic disruptions around the Kara Bridge axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as repair works commence on Tuesday.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Bolanle Ogunlola, said the Federal Ministry of Works would begin replacing the expansion joint on the bridge, with the project scheduled to last two weeks.

She said the repair works would result in partial traffic disruptions around the Kara axis, urging motorists to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor.

According to Ogunlola, the existing four-lane carriageway will be temporarily reduced to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch to create a safe work zone for the project.

“The project is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, July 28 for a period of two weeks. Consequently, motorists are advised to expect partial traffic disruptions around the Kara axis during the repair period. Motorists are urged to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor,” she said.

Ogunlola noted that moderate traffic is expected around the Fatgbems Turn as some motorists make U-turns or seek alternative routes to avoid delays, while traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the junction is expected to flow with minimal disruption.

The ministry advised road users to plan their journeys in advance, consider alternative routes where possible and comply with all traffic advisories to minimise delays during the repair period.

She added that the government appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the public, noting that the rehabilitation work is aimed at improving the safety of the bridge for the benefit of all road users.
