The Oyo State Government has announced the commencement of bursary payments to students of Oyo State origin in Law Schools, Medical Schools, Aviation Schools, and final-year students in universities and polytechnics across the country.

The beneficiaries, numbering about 2,950, were selected from a pool of approximately 3,000 registrants after meeting the criteria set for the award.

The Senior Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs to Governor Seyi Makinde, Victor Olojede, made this announcement on Saturday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, in Ibadan, the state capital.

He noted that Governor Makinde had earlier approved bursary payments totaling N554,989,000, describing him as a strong supporter of students.

“We are officially commencing the payment of bursary awards to final-year students in polytechnics, universities, the Nigerian Law School, Aviation Schools, and Medical and Clinical Schools,” Olojede stated.

“In March 2024, the governor approved the bursary award process. Over 3,000 students registered, and after due diligence, 2,950 were selected. Some students were not chosen as they did not meet the required criteria. Following the selection process, we submitted the list to the governor for approval, resulting in a total bursary payment of over N554,989,000.

“Among the 2,950 beneficiaries, there are about 105 medical and clinical students, four maritime and aviation students, while the rest are final-year students in polytechnics and universities.”

Olojede commended Governor Makinde for the initiative, noting that previous administrations had not provided bursary awards or scholarships for students in any institution in Nigeria.
