Makinde reassures residents of fair process on Ibadan Circular Road project

By Adejayan Gbenga –

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all development projects in the state are executed in a fair, humane, and inclusive manner, amid ongoing criticisms of the 110km Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road Project.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Proposal to the Oyo State House of Assembly on Monday, Makinde announced that engagements with residents affected by the project would begin on Wednesday. He assured that his administration would consider all available options, including proper compensation and possible resettlement.

The governor affirmed that he remained unfazed by insults or death wishes from critics, noting that such reactions come with leadership. He clarified that his administration did not initiate the land acquisition for the project corridor. According to him, documents indicate that the previous administration acquired 500 metres of land on both sides of the road, as reported in a national newspaper on 24 November 2018.

Makinde stressed that the Circular Road is vital to the state’s long-term economic development, promoting growth, equity, and shared prosperity. He cautioned politicians against politicising the matter, adding that the people of Oyo State are “wiser” and understand the motives behind such actions.

Despite having about 18 months left in office, Makinde said he remains focused on building strong institutional structures that will outlast his administration. He highlighted agencies such as OYACA and the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority as key components of these reforms.

He maintained that the project would position Oyo State for industrial expansion, job creation, and commercial solid minerals development.

“We have not failed in over six years, and we will not fail now,” he said. “We ask our people to continue to trust the process as we work together to grow, innovate, and prosper.”
