Makinde urges prayers, harmony as Muslims mark Hijrah 1447 AH

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has congratulated Muslim faithful in the state, Nigeria, and across the world on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447 AH.
In a statement issued on Friday, the governor urged the Muslim Ummah to continue their good deeds, noting that they would surely be rewarded.
Makinde stated that as the Hijrah commemorates the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah, Muslims should use the occasion to intercede for Oyo State, Nigeria, and the nation’s leadership.
He called on the Muslim faithful to internalise the lessons of the Hijrah, stressing the importance of religious tolerance, harmony, and good neighbourliness, which, according to him, have been the hallmarks of Oyo State.
The governor also commended the Muslim community in the state for their support of his administration since 2019, urging them to continue backing the government.
Makinde noted that the next 23 months are crucial for the state as his administration focuses on completing legacy projects and leaving behind worthy achievements.
“The next 23 months are very important to us as a government because we want to finish strong by completing legacy projects and fulfilling our covenant with the people. This is why we launched the Legacy Compact to track our performance and ensure the delivery of key projects in every sector before the end of our tenure,” he said.
“To achieve this, the support of our people is paramount. I urge residents of Oyo State to keep faith with us as we continue to serve their best interests. Happy Hijrah, and may Allah (SWT) bless you all as you begin the New Year,” he added.
