Makinde yet to pick preferred candidate for 2027 Oyo governorship — Aide

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has not endorsed any candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election, contrary to circulating rumours.

This was disclosed by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, in a telephone conversation on Thursday with Western Post’s Oyo correspondent, stating that the governor is still consulting widely before making any decision.

The clarification followed reports on some online platforms claiming that Makinde had settled for Bimbo Adekanmbi as his preferred successor.

Adekanmbi previously served as Commissioner for Finance under former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

Olanrewaju dismissed the claims, emphasising that, “No endorsement has been made at this stage.”

“They are still consulting on who the candidate would be. No announcement has been made,” he added.

He further reiterated that, as of press time, the governor has not publicly or privately named any individual as his preferred candidate for the 2027 race.

The Oyo governorship election is expected to hold on May 11 and will be held concurrently with the House of Assembly elections.
