Mutiu Adepoju advocates for Eguavoen as Super Eagles’ permanent coach

Former international Mutiu Adepoju has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to retain Augustine Eguavoen as the Super Eagles’ head coach.
Eguavoen, who was appointed interim coach in September, led the team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), securing three wins, two draws, and one defeat.
Despite reports suggesting the NFF’s intention to hire a foreign coach for the three-time African champions, Adepoju, a former teammate of Eguavoen, believes the current coach deserves to stay in charge.
“I would rate him very highly. First and foremost, we’ve qualified for AFCON, which was one of the primary objectives,” Adepoju said in an interview with Brila FM. “He has done well and continues to perform admirably.”
Adepoju further emphasized the need to support Eguavoen, stating, “They should continue encouraging him. I believe he’s getting things done, and I would rate him highly. Let’s just keep supporting him.”
