NAPEX expands operations with new Maiduguri hub for soldier support

The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has commissioned a new Nigerian Army Post Exchange (NAPEX) Warehouse at the 7 Division Nigerian Army Annex in Maiduguri.

At the commissioning ceremony held on July 20, 2025, General Abubakar stated that the facility was established to enhance troops’ welfare, boost morale, and reflect the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the well-being of its personnel. He said the initiative aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) command philosophy of building a motivated and combat-ready force.

He emphasized that while military operations remain essential, the welfare of troops and their families must not be overlooked. The warehouse, he said, serves as a practical effort to meet daily needs, reduce stress on field commanders, and improve the quality of life within the theatre.

“This facility is not symbolic—it is a real and impactful solution to the welfare concerns of our personnel. It allows access to quality goods at affordable prices and supports our operational focus,” the Theatre Commander said.

General Abubakar commended the troops of OPHK for their steadfastness in combating terrorism and maintaining national security. He also expressed appreciation to the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for his dedication to troop welfare and provision of critical operational enablers.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of NAPEX, Brigadier General Jibrin Adams, noted that the outlet is part of the Nigerian Army’s welfare services and currently operates 41 supermarkets across barracks nationwide. Its goal is to provide discounted goods and services to military families.

He announced that the new warehouse would be integrated with mini food processing plants to produce items for the NAPEX Super Stores. The initiative, he said, also aims to empower women in the barracks and promote the “Khaki Economy.”

General Adams emphasized that revenue generated from NAPEX activities is reinvested to sustain and expand welfare initiatives for troops and their dependents, reinforcing the Army’s long-term commitment to improving living standards within its ranks.
