NEC team assesses Lagos Red Line, commends multimodal transport plan

A delegation from the Secretariat of the National Economic Council (NEC), led by the Ondo State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Laolu Akindolire, on Friday inspected the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line.
The visit was aimed at assessing the implementation of NEC resolutions and the progress of projects expected to have a direct impact on the lives and economic wellbeing of citizens.
Receiving the delegation, the Technical Adviser, Planning, at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Osa Konyeha, who represented the managing director, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, said the state’s transport development was guided by the Lagos State Strategic Transport Master Plan.
Konyeha said the plan included six rail lines, one monorail, 14 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, more than 20 water transportation routes and supporting road infrastructure, all designed to create a better-connected multimodal transport system.
He said the state government was also working to link the Red Line with the Blue Line at the National Theatre Station, which would make it easier for commuters to move between the two rail lines.
Konyeha added that construction of the Green Line was expected to commence soon, while plans were also underway for the development of the Purple Line as part of efforts to expand public transportation options across the state.
He said Lagos was also investing in water transportation through the Omi Eko initiative, which includes opening up more waterways and deploying energy-efficient electric ferries to support cleaner and more sustainable movement.
Akindolire commended the Lagos State Government for its investment in transport infrastructure and urged other states to adopt similar projects that directly improve the lives of residents.
