NFF denies reports of Chelle’s contract termination

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed as false reports that Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is considering terminating his contract.
Various social media platforms had recently spread rumors that Chelle was ready to end his two-year contract with Nigeria. However, the NFF has firmly refuted these claims, calling them fake.
A high-ranking NFF official, speaking on condition of anonymity, informed our correspondent that there were no issues between the NFF and the coach, let alone discussions about contract termination.
“It’s fake news. At no point have the coach and the NFF discussed such an issue. In fact, both parties are focused on working together to ensure Nigeria secures a spot in the 2026 World Cup,” the official stated.
The NFF source further revealed that Chelle’s upcoming plans include a visit to Europe, where he intends to meet with his players and persuade additional eligible players to represent Nigeria.
“As an executive committee member of the NFF, I can tell you with certainty that this issue has never been raised, and I don’t foresee it happening. Our focus is entirely on qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup,” the official added.
Chelle, who previously coached the Mali national team, was appointed as the Super Eagles coach in January on a two-year contract, with an option for renewal.
He has managed two World Cup qualifying matches so far, securing a 2-0 win against Rwanda in Kigali and a 2-2 draw at home against Zimbabwe.
