NFF General Secretary urges coaches to embrace continuous learning

General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, has urged coaches who recently completed the Coaching Educators’ Course to continually advance their knowledge, stressing that football laws and techniques are constantly evolving.

Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the NFF/FIFA Technical Centre, MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Sanusi addressed the fifteen participating coaches, instructors, and a CAF expert, Mr. Michael Amenga.

He emphasized that mastering subject areas in coaching is crucial. “In coaching education, it’s not just about acquiring knowledge, but also about knowing how to effectively communicate it. This requires deep understanding of the subject,” he said.

Sanusi revealed that reports from technical officers and feedback from the CAF expert highlighted progress but also pinpointed areas needing significant improvement.

He advised coaches to embrace continuous learning, noting that the dynamic nature of football requires constant adaptation. “This kind of programme demands ongoing commitment. Improvement must be a permanent goal,” he added.

Sanusi further stressed the importance of staying current with global developments in football. “Without keeping up with innovations, you risk becoming outdated in a fast-changing sport,” he warned.

He encouraged the coaches to apply what they had learned and seek guidance when necessary. “Internalise and apply the knowledge. If in doubt, consult your peers or reach out to educators,” he concluded.

Also in attendance were NFF Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen, CAF expert Michael Amenga, NFF Communications Director Dr. Ademola Olajire, Head of Education Dr. Terry Eguaoje, Consultant on Finance and Administration Mr. Charity Kadiri, and Deputy Director, Women’s Technical Programme, Mrs. Faith Omon Ben-Anuge.
